"If you haven't allowed for something, the Chinese will do it – for their own benefit"

On September 5, Vladimir Salamatov, General Director of the International Trade and Integration Research Center, spoke in an interview to BUSINESS Online (an online newspaper in Tatarstan) about the trade war between the US and China, its global implications, and the risks for Russia.

"Russia must pursue a pragmatic policy and involve the Chinese as partners wherever possible – both in finance and in technologies," Vladimir Salamatov said.

Russia must maintain and develop its relationships with old partners and look for new partners and allies. The European Union is our partner number one because of our European mentality, culture, and historically established links. But China is no less important for our country. We must look both ways and build balanced international relationships.
