Russia in BRICS: impact of non-tariff regulation instruments on export flows

The article focuses on studying the intensity of application of non-tariff regulation instruments by the BRICS partner countries with respect to the Russian imports, as well as impact thereof on dynamics of trade flows. The most commonly employed trade protection measures include sanitary, phytosanitary and technical barriers to trade. Instruments of non-tariff regulation for restriction of competition on the part of imported products are most intensively applied by Brazil, India comes second. However, the analysis showed that China’s restrictions have the greatest negative impact on dynamics of the Russian export resulting in the Russian metallurgical and chemical producers, as well as agricultural producers suffering significant losses.
